Explore nearly 1,000 acres of protected land on two feet or two wheels. Equinox Preserve and Pond is positioned on the eastern side of Mt. Equinox and includes 11 miles of maintained trails. Positioned on the eastern side of Mt. Equinox, the Equinox Preserve and Pond are part of 914 acres of protected land. Open to the public year-round, the area includes 11 miles of maintained trials ranging from an easy pond loop to a steeper climb up to the summit.Trails are clearly marked. Take the easy-going Flatlanders Pass to the Pond Loop. Try Robin's Lookout off the Red Gate Trail for a sweet view of the Battenkill Valley. Or, if you're up for a long haul, hike the Blue Summit Trail all the way to the top. You can pick up a map at the kiosk near the trailhead or from our concierge. Bring your four-legged best friend with you as trails are pet-friendly. Just remember to leash your dog. Mountain bikers are welcome, too, but asked to avoid single-track trails such as Snicket and Trout Lily. Nature enthusiasts appreciate the diversity of the preserve as it changes with the rise in elevation. In spring, keep your eyes peeled for pretty blooming ephemerals. In summer, enjoy the thick canopy of northern hardwoods. In foliage, head for the overlooks and come prepared to capture captivating views with your camera.

Lessons cover the basics of expedition-style driving and mastering off-road obstacles such as steep ascents and descents, side-tilts, log and water crossings, rock crawls, and boulders. Orvis Shooting SchoolNo matter how experienced you might be handling a gun, you'll learn new techniques with instruction based on the English Churchill method. This instinctive approach to shot gunning can be used for upland and waterfowl hunting as well as sporting clays. Classes include instruction on stance, footwork, gun handling, swing, visual concentration, proper gun mount and correct fit of the gun stock, plus a chance to learn from the best.
